ISHIGAYA was born from a desire to create the kind of jewellery I had always wanted to wear but could never quite find.
The name ISHIGAYA comes from my family’s traditional Japanese soba restaurant, established by my late grandfather, over 60 years ago. Growing up surrounded by untreated cedar wood, natural stone, and handcrafted architecture gave me a deep appreciation for thoughtful craftsmanship and the quiet beauty of imperfection. Those influences continue to shape every piece I create.
I draw inspiration from the natural world — the textures of rock, the shape of caves, the movement of water, and the subtle irregularities found in natural stones and pearls. I am especially drawn to forms that feel organic, imperfect, and shaped by time.
Each piece is created using the lost-wax technique that has been used for 6500 years. I sculpt and shape the form by hand in wax before casting it into metal. From the first carving to the final polishing, every piece is individually shaped and finished by hand.
Working with natural materials and hand-carved forms means that no two pieces are ever exactly alike. Rather than seeking perfect uniformity, I embrace the unique character of each stone, each surface, and each creation.
Through ISHIGAYA, I hope to transform the quiet beauty I find in the world around me into something you can wear, keep, and give to future generations/
